Everything we eat has been transported to us, adding CO2 to the atmosphere. Each little contribution has added up to more CO2 in the atmosphere than at any time in the last 800,000 years. We thought it would be informative to look at a box of apples as an example. Moving a pound of apples from Washington State to New York City, for instance, results in 0.2 pounds of CO2 being released. Think locally when shopping. Enjoy an imported apple, but do it with the knowledge that it comes with a climate cost.
